Howard Carlson

Howard Russell Carlson III, better known as Rusty Carlson, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 70, in Conroe, TX. Born on November 16, 1954, Rusty dedicated much of his professional life to working as an independent petroleum landman, a role that highlighted his keen eye for detail and strong work ethic.

Rusty was the father of two sons and a daughter who he constantly strived to instill values of hard work, empathy, and generosity. He was the kind of father who believed that character mattered more than comfort, although he was fortunate enough to provide that comfort as well. Not a man of many words, but every lesson he taught carried the weight of lived truth. He rose early, worked hard, and treated others with quiet respect-not because it was expected, but because it was right. He taught his children to keep their promises, to own their mistakes, and treat others how they would like to be treated.

Rusty was known for his kind, sweet, generous, and loving nature. He left a lasting impact on everyone he met, embodying a spirit of generosity and warmth that will be profoundly missed.

Rusty is survived by a loving family including his son Russ Carlson, daughter-in-law Vicky Carlson, daughter Christi Carlson and son Tom Carlson. He is also survived by his brother, Scott Carlson, sister Cindy Burns, brother Steve Carlson, sister-in-law Sheila Carlson and sister Susan Carlson. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Howard Carlson Jr., and his brother Rick Carlson.

A visitation for Rusty will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Following the visitation, a gravesite service will take place at Oak Rest Cemetery, also in Brenham, TX.

Rusty's life and legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
