Hilda Sander

Hilda Selma Rose Riechers Sander, 86, died October 24, 2003 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, near Brenham, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 12, 1917, in the Phillipsburg community of Washington County, the youngest child of Fritz and Anna Prahl Riechers. She was baptized on July 1, 1917, by Rev. A.A. Leifeste at Phillipsburg Methodist Church and was confirmed on January 31, 1932, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg by Rev. J. Holm. She attended Wonder Hill School of Washington County. On November 17, 1938, she was married to Raymond Edward Sander in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg by the Rev. C.P. Hasskarl. She was preceded in death by her loving husband on January 30, 1994. A Christian homemaker, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden and yard on the farm, where the family lived since its purchase in 1949. She spent countless hours beautifying the farm and often marveled at the magnificence of God s creative hand in the beauty of all her flowers. She was employed at Brenham Broom and Mop from 1957 until 1969 and at Brenham State School from 1975 until 1981. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Ralph Poehlmann of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Travis Ray T-Ray and Cheryl Sander of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Lori Mayo of El Campo, R. Todd Poehlmann of Brenham, Dana and Randall Dresch of Brenham, Troy Sander of Austin and Trenton and Sherice Sander of Georgetown; great-grandchildren, Michael Mobley, Megan and Mollie Poehlmann, Brittany Gallaher and Kylee and Katie Sander; sisters-in-law, Elsie Sander and Viola Warmke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Tricia Rae Sander; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Fritz Wagener, Frieda and Willie Koester, Eliese and Henry Schlechte, Sophie and Fred Kokemor, Nelda and Ed Kuhlmann and Dora and John Ferch; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Ollie Riechers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Alma Sander, Paul and Selma Sander, Erwin and Emma Sander, Henry Sander and Ed Sander. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg with Pastor Jennifer Bohls officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers will be Wesley Schlechte, Wilburn Koester, Marlin Pace, Walter Thielemann, Erwin Sander, Fred Sander, Donnie Sander and Willie Wagener. Roland Kokemor and Harold Kuhlmann will be considered as honorary pallbearers. Memorials in Hilda s memory may be given to Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
