Herman Lorenz

Herman Ernest Lorenz, 86, of Brenham, died Aug. 7, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Lorenz was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Phillipsburg, Texas, to Hugo and Emma Stern Lorenz. He was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg and was confirmed on April 9, 1933 in the same church. Mr. Lorenz served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On March 16, 1947, he was married to Dorothy Buddenberg in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. Mr. Lorenz was a former employee of A&P Grocery Store and Bohne Memorial Hospital for many years. He was also a farmer. Mr. Lorenz was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Pleasant Hill/New Wehdem Shooting Club. He loved farming and carpenter work. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lorenz of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Herman David Butch and Cindy Lorenz of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Larry Hillman of Houston and Kathryn and Curtis Cannon of Caldwell; sister, Edna Fritz of Brenham; seven grandchildren, Kim Wellmann and husband Dwayne of Dallas, Teri Condit and husband Michael of Dallas, Lori Hillman of New York, Kristen Suehs and husband Bradley of Caldwell, Cheryl Cannon of Stephenville, David Lorenz of Austin and Ryan Lorenz of Brenham; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Wellmann and Jack Condit, both of Dallas and Cameron Suehs of Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence Lorenz and Eldon Lorenz; and sister, Lillie Mae Hegefeld. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be David Lorenz, Ryan Lorenz, Dwayne Wellmann, Michael Condit, Bradley Suehs, Roy Hegefeld, Douglas Fritz and Bradley Raska. His nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Godchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. At the family s request, memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
