Helen Imogene LaCombe

February 18, 1932 — May 12, 2026

Helen Imogene Perry LaCombe, 94, of Brenham, Texas went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2026. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." Helen's faith was her guiding light throughout her life. There will be a committal service at Houston National Cemetery to honor Helen and to place her remains alongside her husband Arthur's.

Helen was born on February 18,1932 in Sheldon, Missouri to Abner and Edith Walker Perry, the youngest of three sisters after Lena and Donna. While still young, her family moved to Denver, Colorado where she grew up. It was there she met her husband Arthur, who was stationed in Denver with the United States Air Force. They subsequently lived in Texas and California during Arthur 's service. Their daughter Susan and son Stephen were born during that time. After Arthur was discharged from the Air Force, they eventually settled in Denver, Colorado where sons Samuel and Thomas were born. The family enjoyed their years living in Colorado and spent many weekends and holidays at their grandmother Perry's mountain retreat. Helen was active in her church, and for several years served with Pioneer Girls, including as a camp counselor and as a swimming and riflery instructor.

In 1965, the family moved to Peoria, Illinois for Arthur's job as an engineering at Caterpillar Tractor Company. Helen made a wonderful home for their family and cared for them lovingly. She had many hobbies, and especially enjoyed going to estate sales with friends, antique collecting, and furniture refinishing. She and Arthur also enjoyed being part of a square-dancing group made up of Caterpillar couples. After Arthur's retirement, they traveled to visit their children and grandchildren as well as other family members and also took many sightseeing trips with Helen's sister Donna and her husband Bob. They traveled throughout the United States as well as overseas. In 1996, they decided to move to Brenham, Texas to be closer to family and for the milder winters. They enjoyed the country life in Brenham for over twenty years. Arthur passed away in 2021, shortly after their 70th wedding anniversary.

Helen is survived by her children, Susan (Douglas) Daily, Stephen (Susan) LaCombe, Samuel LaCombe, and Thomas LaCombe; grandchildren Michael (Caroline) Daily, Jonathan (Jenny) LaCombe, Christopher LaCombe, Sarah (Matt) McKinney, Tristan and Evan LaCombe; great-grandchildren Madeleine and Harrison Daily, and Jorah LaCombe.
