Helen Draeger

Helen Wegner Draeger, 91, of Brenham, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Helen was born on July 18, 1933 to Fred Herman and Alma Rust Wegner and was baptized on October 1, 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville by Pastor Karl Mueller. She was confirmed on September 22, 1946 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin by Pastor Arthur Mohr.

Helen was educated in Berlin school and on December 16, 1956 she was united in marriage with Gus Draeger, Jr. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. She was a homemaker and worked in the dietary department at Trinity Medical Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley and husband, Michael Thorpe; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Esther Webb, Weda Campbell and Jean Wegner; brothers and sisters-in-law Alfred and Alice Wegner and Patsy Wegner.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Draeger, Jr.; her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; sister, Edna McKelvey; brothers, Raymond Wegner, Harold Wegner and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Emma Draeger, Lydia Jaster and Raymond Jaster.

Visitation for Mrs. Draeger will be on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ of Burton with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Adams IV, Bradley Chovanec, Jason Chovanec, Ronald Jaster, Carroll W Webb and Damon Wegner.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley of Brenham or St. John's United Church of Christ of Burton.
