Hattie Pieper

Hattie Emma Schomburg Pieper, 88, of Brenham, and the widow of Herbert Pieper, died Friday evening in Trinity Care Center of Brenham. Mrs. Pieper was born September 3, 1915, in Kenney, Texas, to Henry and Henrietta Richter Schomburg. She was baptized and confirmed in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and received her education in the Travis Community School grade school in Austin County. On November 25, 1939, she married Herbert Andrew Pieper in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg. Mrs. Pieper was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem and a member of the Women of St. James Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and loved playing cards with her friends. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Virginia Pieper and Jerry and Christine Pieper, all of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Kern Borlin of Artesia, NM; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Erna Pieper of Brenham and Alfred and Norma Pieper of New Wehdem; sister-in-law, Hilda Schomburg Schroeder. Mrs. Pieper was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Ressel, Wayne Schomburg, Kenneth Pieper, Billie Pieper, Lloyd Pieper, and Alton Haar. All grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main St., in Brenham.
