Gladys Davis

Gladys Marlene McBride Davis, 94, of Brenham died September 14, 2025 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham.

Mrs. Davis was born on August 2, 1931 in Cuero, Dewitt County, Texas to Willie Ira and Celesta Texana (Lands) McBride. When she was sixteen years old, Dr. Ben David read John 6:67-69 during a sermon and she gave her life to the Lord, Jesus Christ.

She graduated from Cuero High School, Blinn College and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

On August 29th 1950 Gladys married Duane Newton Davis at the First Baptist Church in Brenham. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham.

Mrs. Davis enjoyed sewing, cooking, bird watching and gardening. In addition to being a wife and mother, Mrs. Davis was an elementary teacher, a career she loved. She taught second grade at Alton Elementary for many years before retiring in the 1990's.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Owen and Mary Davis of Burnet, and Calvin Joel Davis of Brenham. A daughter, Sharon Richmond of College Station, Tx. five grandchildren, Carrie Richmond, Anne Richmond, Leah Winn, Peggy (Brian) Wells, Thomas Evans and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; Brother, Carlton Wayne McBride, and Brother-in-law Keith Davis (Rosalie). Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Florence and Celesta; her brothers, Jackie, Teddy, Jerry and Carlton McBride; her beloved sister-in-law, Deloris Hill; Brothers-in-law Rex, Bruce, and Terry Davis, and son-in-law Greg Richmond.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20th at Fellowship Baptist Church, 2000 FM 389, Brenham, Texas. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Evans, Tyler Miller, John Wells, Samuel Wells, William Wells, and Patrick Winn.
