Gertrude Schroeder

Gertrude Lehrmann Schroeder, age 97, of Brenham, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 16, 2025 at Kruse Village.

She was born August 29, 1927, in a cedar log home in the rural community of Gay Hill, Washington County, Texas, the second child of Arthur F. Schroeder, Sr. and Erna Steinkamp Schroeder. A devoted member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, she was baptized on October 9, 1927 and confirmed on October 25, 1942.

On June 12, 1949, Gertrude married Reuben H. Lehrmann, and they had five children, who survive her: James Lehrmann (Lucretia), Patricia Lehrmann Cooke, Carolyn Lehrmann Conklin (Cary), Marilyn Lehrmann Snell, and Faye Lehrmann Rogers. Reuben H. Lehrmann predeceased her on August 7, 1973. Gertrude is survived by their grandchildren: Toren Lehrmann (Stephanie), Carson Conklin (Lindsay), Colby Conklin (Brandy), Melissa Snell Santana (Scott), Courtney Snell Tarbox (Jason), and by their great-grandchildren: Tristan Lehrmann, William Conklin, Jackson Conklin, McKenna Conklin, Abigail Conklin, Sarah Beth Conklin, Tucker Conklin, James Santana, Sophie Santana, Aubrey Tarbox, and Garrett Tarbox. Gertrude was predeceased by their grandchildren: John Cooke, Jamie Cooke, and Leslie Snell.

On August 17, 2002, Gertrude remarried to Gilbert O. Schroeder, and he predeceased her on May 27, 2021. She is survived by step-children: Calvin Schroeder (Rose), Ron Schroeder, and Bruce Schroeder, and by step-grandchildren: Tristan Schroeder (Reagan), Morgann Schroeder, and Caelyn Schroeder.

Gertrude is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille Presley Welch and Bill Welch, sister-in-law, Gladys Fay Schroeder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Gladys Schroeder; brother-in-law, Tom Presley; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Kirby Runge; brother, Arthur F. Schroeder, Jr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Bertha Lehrmann; brother-in-law, Edmond Lehrmann, and sisters-in-law, Lynette and Sylvia Lehrmann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kirby and Dorothy Lehrmann, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Geneva and Elton (Jr.) Tonn; and son-in-law, Doyle Rogers.

Gertrude served her church faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Jr. Lutherans leader, member of Ladies Aid (later known as Women's Mission Society or Women's Missionary Federation), Women of the E.L.C.A., secretary of the Brenham Conference Women of the A.L.C., Altar Guild, Lutheran World Relief quilts, and Archives.

She was honored to serve Washington County as County Clerk from 1975 through 1994 and Interim Tax Assessor-Collector in 1996. She served on the Board of Directors of Chamber of Commerce, joined Blue Blazers and was selected as 1992 Woman of the Year. She was a member of American Legion, serving as President from 1983 to 1984 and 1990 to 1991, and a member of Pilot Club and Washington County Historical Commission.

She won the 4-H Washington County Gold Star Award in 1944 and participated in the Washington County Fair from youth through golden age.

Serving as pallbearers are Toren Lehrmann, Carson Conklin, Colby Conklin, Scott Santana, Jason Tarbox, William Conklin, Jackson Conklin, James Santana, and Garrett Tarbox.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating. Following interment in the church cemetery, there will be fellowship and a meal with the family in the church annex.

Viewing and registry will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
