Obituary

George Edwin Lorenz, 86, of Brenham passed away August 17, 2026.

George was born on February 22, 1940 in the Salem Community of Washington County to Edwin and Matilda (Naumann) Lorenz. He was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church in Brenham. He was united in marriage to Walline Fischer on August 23, 1962 at Zion Lutheran Church.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing Church League Softball and raising sheep for his granddaughters to show at the County Fair. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and watching Astro’s baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Walline (Fischer) Lorenz; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Lorenz; daughter and son-in-law, Shonda and Robert Ziese; grandchildren, Kourtney and Justin Cook, Karley and Justin Brending; great-grandchildren, John and Allison Cook; sisters, Esther Lehmann, Mildred Holle, Betty Schaefer; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Martin; brother-in-law Charles Keng; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Draehn, Esther Mae Fischer and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin and Matilda Lorenz; parents-in-law, Fritz and Elsie Fischer; brother, Burney Lorenz, brothers and sisters-in-law; Roy and Hilda Lorenz, Harold and Mary Jo Lorenz; sister, Dorothy Keng; brothers-in-law, Gene Lehmann, Bernard Holle, Billy Schaefer, Luther Draehn and Marvin Fischer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Esther Rhodes.

The funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Glenn Hohlt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday until service time.

Pallbearers will be Mark Lehmann, Don Blome, Scott Luetge, Bradley Fischer, Kevin Draehn, Cody Stelter, Curtis Gurka and Jeff Maitland.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Bobby and Mary Lee Mertz.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.
