Evelynie Lubowski

Born September 9, 1931 in Wheelock, Texas as Evelynie Virginia Matejka to Joe and Steffie Matejka. She was one of 7 children, born after her 2 older brothers Robert and James, and before her 2 younger brothers Edward and Earnest, and 2 younger sisters Elaine and Elsie.

The family moved from the Wheelock area to around the town of Damon, Texas in 1945. She graduated from high school in 1947 from West Columbia. Then she moved to Houston to attend business school and get a job.

She married Farrel Thomas in 1951.She had one child in 1954, Allan Thomas. She was divorced in the late 50's and then married Charles Lubowski August 9, 1963. They purchased the land outside Brenham in July 1965.

She worked as a staff support for various executives at Great Southern Life Insurance Company in Houston including the CEO's of the company starting in her late 30's. Great Southern Life was bought out by American General Life Insurance and management was replaced. The management formed a new company Columbia Universal Life Insurance and she became secretary of the company until she retired.

Charles and Evelynie built a house on the property outside Brenham in 1988 to 1989. They moved from Houston to Brenham in the mid to late 1990's. Charles passed away in 2019.

Evelynie passed away August 25, 2025. She is survived by her son Allan, brother Edward, sisters Elaine and Elsie and 13 nieces and nephews of the Matejka family and 1 niece and nephew from Charles' family.

A visitation for Evelynie will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel located at 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Needville City Cemetery located at 11714 Needville Fairchilds Road, Needville, Texas.
