Obituary

Emma Jean Seeker, 86, of Brenham, Texas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 11, 2026, at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Jean, as everyone knew her, was born on December 26, 1939, in Brenham, Texas, to Edwin A. Seeker Sr. and Emma Ehlert Seeker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. She attended Rocky Hill School before continuing her education at Brenham Public Schools, where she graduated as Valedictorian of the Brenham High School Class of 1957.

As a young woman, Jean was an active member of the Washington County 4-H Club and proudly became the first female member of the Dairy Judging Team. She attended Blinn College for two years, graduating summa cum laude, and then earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from The University of Texas in 1963 (As she would say HOOK’EM HORNS!).

After graduation, Jean moved to Houston, where she enjoyed a successful career as a pharmacist for many years. She later returned to her hometown of Brenham and continued serving her community through her work at Medical Arts Pharmacy, Norman's Pharmacy, Waldie's Pharmacy, and Kenjura Pharmacy, among others, before retiring to her family farm in Prairie Hill.

Jean truly loved country living and took great pride in maintaining her family home and farm. She enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each year, caring for her herd of cattle, and spending time with the many cats and dogs she cherished throughout her life. Her faithful dog, Max, was her constant companion in her later years. Jean also treasured the many wonderful memories she made while traveling around the world with her close friends.

A devoted member of the Brenham community, Jean faithfully served for many years in the Pilot Club. Her greatest dedication, however, was to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where she was a lifelong member. Throughout the years, she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Confirmation teacher, church council officer, and an active member of Ladies Aid. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially by preparing food for church events and gatherings.

Jean is survived by her brother, Edwin Seeker Jr.; her nephews, Russell Seeker and wife Tina, and Troy Seeker; her great-nephews, Colby Seeker and wife Mariah, and Hunter Seeker and wife Brittany; her great-niece, Emily Shelton and husband Logan; her great-great-nephew, Kohen Seeker; her great-great-nieces, Brylynn Seeker and Hayden Seeker; her aunt, Dolores Seeker; and many cousins, relatives, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin A. Seeker Sr. and Emma Ehlert Seeker; her sister-in-law, LaNell Seeker; and many other cherished relatives.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Seeker Jr., Russell Seeker, Colby Seeker, Hunter Seeker, Logan Shelton, and Emily (Seeker) Shelton.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Troy Seeker, Dolores Seeker, Judy Steinfeld, her fellow members of Ladies Aid, and her cherished travel companions.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, with the family present to receive friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill or Brazos Valley Hospice.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Brenham, Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Brazos Valley Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Jean throughout her final days.
