Dorothy O'Connor

Dorothy Elaine Johnson O’Connor was born October 30, 1932 on a farm near Centerville, Iowa, one of fourteen children of Anthony and Ella Mae Wakefield Johnson.

Dorothy graduated from Centerville High School and moved to the Mississippi River town of Davenport, Iowa in late 1950s. She met Patrick O’Connor of Rock Island, Illinois and married him in 1966 in Key West, Florida. She lived in Rock Island from marriage until retirement from Rodeway Transportation in 1990. Patrick died in 1974.

Dorothy moved to Brenham in 1990 and passed away on September 20, 2019 due to congestive heart failure. She was predeceased by eleven siblings, she is survived by her brother Clarence Johnson of Irvine, California and sister Tillie Burhans of Anamosa, Iowa, along with many nephews and nieces across the country.

Dorothy was a member of Brenham Presbyterian Church. She was known as a loyal friend, great cook, book reader, cross stitcher, and a lover of animals and gardening. She was independent minded, strong willed, and a do-it-yourselfer, still doing her own yardwork two months prior to passing.

Graveside services will be held October 26 at 10 a.m. at Oak Rest Cemetery, located at 9605 Mayfair Ln, north of Brenham. A reception will follow afterwards at the Brenham Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. For those wishing to make donations in memory of Dorothy, they can be directed to the Church.
