Dorothy Mcgill

Dorothy Ann Knittel McGill, 89, of Burton, passed away June 27, 2019 from Parkinson’s Disease.

Dorothy was born January 14, 1930 in Deanville, Texas. She attended Burton High School, graduating in 1948.

Dorothy loved riding horses and like to barrel-race as a teenager. She met the love of her life, Jack McGill, and they were married December 28, 1948 in Houston. They were married for 54 years.

A strong, talented lady, she enjoyed making porcelain dolls and eggs for others, and was awarded the Kit Stansbury Award for her talents. Another favorite hobby was ceramics, which became a business.

Her family meant the world to her. Dorothy and Jack had two children, Pat and Jim, her daughter-in-law, Jody, and six grandchildren: Shirley, Jennifer, Keith, Mark, Valerie, and Stevie, as well as seven great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Summer, Andrew, Somerlin, Linleigh, Presley and Jackson.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son, Jim; her parents and parents-in-law, as well as all her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter, Pat Ford, and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Keith, Mark, Stevie, Shane, Kenney, Cody, John and Mike. Lance, Cory and Spunk will be honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive visitors Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pastor Bob Hoffman of the Bethany Church in Burton will officiate at the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton.

After the funeral, all are invited to visit with the family and enjoy refreshments at the Bethany Church at 307 N. Brazos St. in Burton.

The family would like to thank Texas Home Health and the entire staff of Hospice Brazos Valley for their care of Dorothy. Special thanks are also extended to Heather and Charlie for taking care of Dorothy. The family also wishes to remember Nelda Stutts, Dorothy’s longtime friend, and Joyce Gantt, both of whom she considered as cherished members of her family.
