Doris Staten

September 30, 1926 — November 5, 2018

Doris Emma Wehmeyer Staten, 92, died November 5, 2018 in Brenham.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Doris was born September 30, 1926 in Brenham to Ed and Lena Grimm Wehmeyer. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church and confirmed at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church at Berlin by Rev. William Utisok.

Doris moved to Houston at the age of 15. On April 1, 1975, she married H. E. Staten. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. on Oct. 2, 1981 after 25 years of service as a long distance and ship to shore operator. In October of 2006, she moved back to her hometown and resided at Bluff View Villa Apartments. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church until her death.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Waggoner of Brenham; Jetta Goodman and husband Glen of Brenham; grandchildren: Bennie Waggoner III and wife Sherry of Magnolia; Trish Whitfield and husband Clay of Burton; Rhonda Vidales and husband Johnny of Deer Park; Lisa Corrington and husband Scot of Deer Park; great-grandchildren: Autumn Sparks, LeAnna Sparks; Justin Waggoner and wife Jamie; Shelby Waggoner; Heather Harris, Cole and Katy Whitfield, Josh and Tori Vidales, Lauren Labardini, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, H.E. Staten; son Gary Pynes; son-in-law Bennie Waggoner, Jr; brothers Edwin Wehmeyer and wife Katie; E.G. (Bobbie) Wehmeyer and wife Joyce; sister, Lula Louise Galipp and husband Carl. Doris was also preceded in death by her best friend, Evelyn Barttelt.

Doris enjoyed shopping, dancing, and taking care of her yard. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they spent the night with her, taking them shopping and out to eat. Doris was happy to entertain her neighbors at Bluff View Villa, and sat on her porch for hours, watching the traffic on 290. She was a role model for the entire family.

Serving as pallbearers are Johnny Vidales, Justin Waggoner, Carly Gallip, Travis Sternadel, Lance Sternadel, and Scot Corrington. Honorary pallbearer will be Bennie Waggoner III and Clay Whitfield.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Brazos Valley; nurses Haley Folsom, Sue Ellen, and Jenny, as well as the home care aide, Michaela and the social worker, Brenda Schultz.
