David Schlipf

May 9, 1935 — February 21, 2003

David Clarence Schlipf, 67, of Brenham, TX died peacefully at Gazebo Terrace. He was born in Rocky Ridge, Ohio. Dave worked for New York Central Railroad as a heavy equipment operator for eight years. After receiving a BS degree in civil engineering from Tri State College, Angola, IN in December 1963, he began a 25-year career with Alcoa Aluminium Company of America. In February 1989, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease, he retired from Alcoa after serving as a purchasing agent and construction buyer at seven offices or construction sites throughout the U.S. He worked in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, California and Louisiana. Dave coached Little League baseball, and was Vice President of the Jaycees while in Kensington, PA. He was an active Lions Club member in Rockdale, TX and Corona, CA. Dave was active in a local church in each city e called home. At his death, he was a member of St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. As a friend, neighbor and co-worker, Dave was always ready to lend a helping hand and was said to have never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Eileen Redman; a sister, Janet Smith of Sandusky, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Susan Schlipf of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a daughter, Cheryl Matous of Bryan, Texas; 5 grandchildren Shannon Bailey and husband Byron Bailey, Emily Schlipf, Jessica Matous, and Owen Schlipf, and one great-grandchild, Austin Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence David Schlipf, on June 9, 1982; Viola Schuster Schlipf on November 4, 1998; and step father Gerald H. Hays on April 18, 2001. The Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 West 3d Street, Brenham, Texas. Church phone 979 836-5522. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer s Association or St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham, Texas 979 836-4564.
