Obituary

David Wayne Lange passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 4, 1942, to Louis and Ella Helm Lange in Zionsville, Texas, David was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended Harrisburg School and graduated from Brenham High School. On April 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandra Schlottmann Lange, at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. Together, they made their home in Zionsville for 53 years, where they raised their daughters, Melissa and Alison, and remained active members of the community.

David grew up working alongside his parents on their dairy farm, developing a strong work ethic and a love of raising cattle and horses. During his school years, he was active in 4-H and was a member of the Brenham High School team that earned first place in the State Dairy Cattle Judging Competition, before traveling to Waterloo, Iowa, where they claimed second place at the National 4-H Convention. A cowboy at heart, he participated in the Salt Grass Trail Ride and held many fond memories of those days.

His working life off the farm began with Pearl Brewing Company, Pomykal Drilling, and Sealy Mattress, but it was as an entrepreneur that he truly found his stride. For several decades, he operated a successful custom farming business in Washington County and was one of the largest hay producers in the area. In his later years, he founded Lange Trucking, where he and his drivers traveled cross-country hauling a wide range of goods.

Always armed with a joke and ready to lend a hand to a neighbor in need, David never failed to keep his chin up, even when times were tough. His warmth, humor, and joy of life touched everyone who knew him, and he was richly blessed with devoted friends, family, and neighbors. A generous husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, he loved his family above all else. His daughters and grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy, and he loved his sons-in-law as his own. David's big smile, booming laugh, and kind spirit will be deeply missed.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sandra Schlottmann Lange; his parents, Louis and Ella Helm Lange; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Ruby Wernecke Schlottmann; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Stubbs Brown, Dorothy and Lonnie Siebel, and Natalie and William Bell; and his brother-in-law, Willie Rosenbaum.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Drew Standley, and Alison and Jorge Guerrero; his grandchildren, Lauren Standley, Ella Standley, Ethan Guerrero, and Maeve Guerrero; his sister and brother-in-law, Margie and David Rountree; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen Rosenbaum, Debra and Glenn Kovar, and Linda McCulloch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel located at 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas. A private graveside will be held at a later date.

His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Zion Lutheran Church and the many neighbors and loved ones who supported David in his final years. They also offer their deepest thanks to the extraordinary nurses, caregivers, and staff at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Kruse Village, Right at Home, and Hospice Brazos Valley for their compassionate and dedicated care.
