Obituary

Daryl “Larry” Jaeger of Burton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 5, 2026, with his wife, Ruth, by his side.

Larry was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 9, 1943, to Henry and Lillie Jaeger. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Arthur. Larry was humbly raised on the family farm, where he spent his early years picking cotton and working alongside his family in their dairy operation. Those early years instilled in him a strong work ethic, a deep appreciation for the land, and a lifelong commitment to family.

Larry graduated from Burton High School in May 1961. He cherished the memories of his school years, especially the friendship he shared with his best friend and classmate, Murray Kieke. In 1963, Larry was confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, Texas.

On July 25, 1964, Larry married his wife, Ruth Irene Wiggins, at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas.

After the birth of their three children in Houston, Larry and Ruth moved their family to Burton in 1979. Larry continued his career as an electrician with Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, where he worked from November 12, 1979, until his retirement on July 9, 2004. He considered his coworkers at Bluebonnet not simply colleagues, but family.

Larry was a man who could build, fix, restore, and create just about anything. In retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed farming, cattle ranching, and restoring rental properties together. He took great pride in his skills as a carpenter, plumber, and electrician. Among his proudest accomplishments was building their log home with his own hands—a lasting reflection of his craftsmanship, determination, and love for his family.

Larry also treasured the opportunity to travel, especially his time in Germany, where he enjoyed learning more about his heritage.

Above all, Larry was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was there to cheer them on and support them through every stage of life—from livestock shows and Little League baseball, where he coached his sons and even his grandson, he enjoying basketball games, family gatherings, and the countless moments when he passed along the practical skills and life lessons he had learned throughout his own life. His family will forever remember his steady presence, generous spirit, willingness to help, and the pride he took in each of them.

Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Irene Jaeger; son Daren Jaeger of San Diego, California; son Brian Jaeger and wife Karen of Burton, Texas; daughter Tanya Drews and husband Lonny of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren Shelby and Collin Lawson of College Station, Texas; Kyle and Sadie Drews of Burleson, Texas; and Zoe Jaeger, Eli Jaeger, and Emberly Jaeger of Burton, Texas; and great-grandchildren Landrie and Hadley Lawson of College Station, Texas. He is also survived by his siblings Jeanette Zemanek of Houston; Edith and Earl Featherston of Houston; Jerry and Paulette Jaeger of Cary, North Carolina; and sister-in-law Sarah Jaeger of Houston.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillie Jaeger; siblings Delores and Jack Gummelt, Bernhardt and Lois Jaeger, Melvern and Theresa Jaeger, Wilburn Jaeger, and Lanis Jaeger; and brother-in-law, Robert Zemanek.

Larry leaves behind a legacy built not only with his hands, but with his heart—a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a life well lived. His family takes comfort in knowing that the lessons he taught, the things he built, and the love he gave will continue through the generations.

The family will receive friends and family at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas, on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at the Jaeger-Witte Family Cemetery on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

Pallbearers are Kyle Drews, Collin Lawson, Eli Jaeger, Mark Jaeger, Jeff Featherston, and Steven Jaeger.

Honorary Pallbearers are all of Larry’s beloved sisters, brother, nieces, and nephews.
