Alice Courtney McCampbell Barker July 3, 1939 - June 15, 2026 Courtney McCampbell Barker peacefully passed away surrounded by her children on June 15, 2026, in Brenham, Texas, at the age of 86. Born in Corpus Christi to Atlee McCampbell and Courtney Jones McCampbell, she lived a life marked by warmth, grace, service, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and community.
Courtney grew up in Corpus Christi and attended Menger Elementary School, Wynn Seale Junior High School, and W. B. Ray High School, graduating with the Class of 1957. In 1959, she was honored as a debutante through the Order of De Pineda, a cherished Corpus Christi tradition. She maintained lifelong ties to her high school community, organizing numerous Ray High School Class of 1957 reunions and remaining closely connected with classmates throughout her life.
She went on to attend the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Spanish.
Following college, Courtney worked as a schoolteacher for several years before becoming an employee of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
Courtney was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi and served in volunteer organizations throughout the Coastal Bend community. She enjoyed the many friendships she made through them. As a volunteer member of the Junior League of Corpus Christi, she carefully re-created children's books by hand into large-print versions for children with reduced vision. She was honored as Sustaining Member of the Year in 1982. In 1983, Courtney co-chaired the citywide Corpus Christi Bayfest celebration and later served on the Junior League executive board.
Courtney was preceded in death by her parents, Courtney Jones McCampbell and Atlee McCampbell;and her brothers, Thomas McCampbell and William McCampbell.
Above all, Courtney was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children: Courtney Schultz and her husband Ron of Brenham, Texas; Erin Burnam and her husband Trip of Dallas, Texas; and Scot Barker and his wife Ricki of Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Will Schultz, Anna Schultz, Hayley Schultz Carter and her husband Race, Cole Burnam and his wife Alyssa, Thomas Burnam, Skylar Barker, Eleanor Barker, and Bowman Barker. Each held a special place in her heart, and she loved hearing about their accomplishments and latest adventures.
Courtney was known for her kindness, her sense of humor, her quiet strength, and her resilience through life's challenges. She found joy in gardening, woodworking, drawing, painting, planning gatherings and time spent with family. Her creativity and warmth were evident in all she did.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Silversage Assisted Living in Brenham and to Concho Hearts Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Courtney's legacy lives on in her family, her friendships, and the many communities she served. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial service for Courtney is scheduled for Friday, August 28 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church, 900 S. Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX 78401. Urn Interment will directly follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 2731 Comanche St, Corpus Christi, TX 78408.
