Clarice Kramer

April 22, 1930 — December 30, 2018

Clarice Jolane (Werchan) Kramer passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was married to Edgar Kramer for 68 years. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill and was a member of Hope and Park Place Lutheran churches in Houston for more than 40 years. In Brenham she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 23 years. Throughout her life she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and committee volunteer.

Clarice was born on April 22, 1930, to Walter and Ella Werchan of Gay Hill, Texas. She graduated from Brenham High School and Blinn College. After her marriage she moved to Houston where she and Edgar raised four daughters. They retired to Brenham where they have lived for 23 years. Clarice is survived by her husband, Edgar; four daughters and their husbands, Deborah and George Korte, Karen and Arthur Chal, Connie and TJ Allard, and Pamela and Terry Cole; three grandchildren, Ross Maynard, Christopher Roehl, and Brynna Cole; three step-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Korte Coppage, Kathleen Korte Wang, and Chris Korte; six step-great-grandchildren; and her sister June Thurber Cox and sister-in-law Mildred Richter. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ella Werchan, and brother, Walter Werchan, Jr.

Clarice was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and gardener. She made almost all the clothing for herself and four daughters as they grew up. She and Edgar enjoyed playing cards and dominos with friends and family. They played golf together for many years, locally and throughout the country. They loved to travel and enjoyed cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. Colorado was a favorite destination for fly fishing.

Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, January 1, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on January 2, conducted by Pastor Phil Fenton at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with a reception following, and burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Memorial Oaks Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be grandsons Christopher Roehl and Ross Maynard and nephews James Richter, David and Nolan Lehman, Ronnie Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers are Douglas Rogge, Larry Werchan and Alfred Werchan, Jr., and Gloria Roehling.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be made to Parkinson’s Research Foundation at 5969 Cattle Ridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota, FL 34232, or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church building fund or Christian Day School.
