Bruce Eugene Cheney, 74 of Brenham, passed away May 18, 2026.

He was born March 21, 1952 in Visalia, CA to Robert Eugene and Doris (Wilson) Cheney. He married Oma Lou Dominey on December 18, 1973 and they were married for 53 years.

Bruce dedicated much of his life to public service, working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Transfer Officer and for Huntsville ISD Transportation as a school bus driver. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, Bruce loved watching all sports. He spent many hours watching his favorite teams, the Houston Texans and the Houston Astros. He also found joy in nature as an avid birdwatcher, spending countless hours observing and appreciating wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, Oma of Brenham; his sons and daughter-in-law: Chad and Teri Cheney of New Waverly and Michael Cheney of Huntsville; daughter and son-in-law: Christy and James Schlottmann of Brenham; sister: Lana Hoglen; grandchildren: Chase and Devyn Cheney, CJ and Carlee Langley, Alex Cheney, Samantha Cheney, Eric and Sydney Cheney, Eden Linney and special friend, Hayley McCain, Colby Cheney and special friend Makenzie Cox, Mason Cheney, Connor Schlottmann and special friend Logan Ballard, Kaylyn Cheney; one great-grandchild and big Pawpaw's favorite partner in crime: Carter Asher Langley, Cassie Hilton and other relatives: Ashley Walker, Kynley Hearne, Ella Walker, Samantha and Benjamin Brooks and Madelyn and Cullen Brooks.

He is preceded by his daughter, Melissa Ann Cheney and his parents.

Honorary pallbearers include Chase Cheney, CJ Langley, Eric Cheney, Colby Cheney, Mason Cheney, Connor Schlottmann and Carter Asher Langley.

A visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
