Bessie was born at the home farm to Eddie and Mary (Sklar) Pilcik on Sept. 3, 1922. She wanted to be a nurse, but her parents told her she was needed on the farm to work, cook and help her brother and sisters.

She married Vencil E. “Jim” Broz on July 20, 1943. As Jim served his country during World War II, Bessie worked in San Antonio as a cashier at Kress Department Store. When the war was over, Jim wanted to bring Bessie back to Bleiblerville to be a farmer and rancher with him. Then, their daughter Dorothy was born.

Bessie worked alongside her husband to create a wonderful working farm. She was a Depression baby, and she was raised simply with a great work ethic. In fact, working was her whole life along with helping people who needed help, expecting nothing in return. For 43 years, Bessie and Jim mowed and cleaned the church grounds and cemetery for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Industry, expecting no pay for their work.

Bessie lived on the farm until May 6, 2019, when she fell and moved in with her daughter. Dedicated to God and family, Bessie was a hard worker and great gardener and kolache baker. She is finally at rest with no more pain and no longer feeling cold.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Flisowski Morgan and husband Emmett; grandson, Kevin Flisowski and wife Kelly; granddaughter, Christy Flisowski Goode; great-grandchildren, Karleigh and Kaden Flisowski and Madison Goode; brother, Eddie Pilcik; sister, Tillie Balke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vencil “Jim” Broz; parents, Eddie and Mary (Sklar) Pilcik; infant sister, Dorothy; sister, Evelyn Goeke and husband Gilbert; in-laws, Charles Balke, Alice Pilcik, Henry and Ester Broz, Frank and Gladys Broz and Marie and Ed Rayner.

Pallbearers will be Emmett Morgan, Kevin Flisowski, Charles Balke, Raymond Broz, Bruce Pilcik, Gilbert Goeke, Tim Hajdik and Marvin Sodolak. Honorary pallbearers are Frankie Surovik and Linda Kettler.

A grateful thank you goes to Dr. Bosse and Allumine Hospice, especially Sharon, Wendy and Elaine.

Funeral arrangements for Bessie Broz are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham, TX 77833, 979-836-4564.
