Barbara Hackemack

If you ever visited Hackemack s Hofbruhaus at New Ulm/Frelsburg, Texas during the late 80s and most of the 90s, chances are that you were Greeted and Seated by the smiling face of Barbara Hackemack. Barbara Hackemack, age 55, passed away at her home near Brenham, Texas on her husband s birthday, September 16, 2003, after conquering the difficulties of breast cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, non Hodgkins lymphoma and the many surgeries associated with them. She finally lost a courageous battle of Pulmonary T-cell lymphoma. Barbara was born May 31, 1948 in Brenham to John & Mavis Carr Huron. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Brenham. On September 24, 1989, she married Aubrey Gene Hackemack at Hackemack s Hofbruhaus in a ceremony conducted in German by Judge Karl Micklitz. She graduated from Brenham High School in 1966. Barbara was employed at Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 20 years. After marrying Gene, she became co-owner/manager of Hackemack s Hofbruhaus where she made many, many, friends. In 1998 they sold the restaurant and made their home near Brenham. From Jan 2000 Oct 2002 she worked as a church secretary for the Brenham Church of Christ. She grew to love the congregation so much that she became a member. They all surrounded her with love, prayers, and comfort to the very end of her life. At the time of her death she was employed at the Brenham State School. She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law Minnie Hackemack. Survivors include husband, Aubrey Gene Hackemack of Brenham & their beloved dog, Heidi, brother & sister in-law, Larry & Margaret Huron, niece & husband Teresa & Wade Pieper, niece Ann Huron, nephew Doyle Huron, great nephews & niece, Tyler, Tanner & Tatum Pieper of Brenham. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley & James Pietsch of Ledbetter, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Dr. Verne Schmidt & Lisa of New Braunfels, special granddaughter Amber Paris and her mother Marie Paris of Rossville, GA. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles. Barbara especially loved traveling, dancing, fishing in their pond, and always enjoyed her work. She loved her many friends & family who were always there for her during her illness. She never let the cancer control her life, she enjoyed her life to the very end. Pallbearers will be Doyle Huron, Wade Pieper, James Pietsch, Dr. Verne Schmidt, Ralph Hackemack, Eric Florian, Gary Kunkel, and Jason Keepers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Gurka, Norbert Strmiska, Weinert Grohmann, Joe Krause, Pete Kubicek, Ed Kadlecek & band, Rennie Guenther & band, and all members of the Brenham Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Brenham Church of Christ, 2800 Victory Lane. Family visitation will be on Friday, September 19, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brenham Church of Christ, or Hospice of Brenham.
