Barbara Elinor (Appelt) DeCosta , of Brenham Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on August 18, 2019 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan Texas.
Barbara was born May 19th, 1933 in Alvin, Texas to Claude and Margaret Holloway. She married Bill Appelt and centered on raising 3 sons and one daughter in Alvin Texas until they were grown before moving to California with her daughter, Teresa. She later married Jim Decosta in the late 80’s and lived in Carmichael California until 2017
As a devoted homemaker, Barbara loved shopping, cooking, gardening and taking care of her flowers. In California, she took up archery, camping at Jackson Meadows and other places, taking care of her special roses and her orange tree. She loved fishing, watching western movies and Hallmark movies in her past time. She treasured the time when her kids and grandkids would come visit her.
She will be missed dearly by her friends and family. She is survived by her three sons Gary Appelt, David Appelt, Mark Appelt, and daughter Teresa Utterback, her daughter in-laws Nina Appelt and Claudia Appelt. Grandchilden include Amber Appelt, Brandon Appelt and spouse Carolyn Appelt, Garrett Appelt and spouse Genna Appelt, Jamie Appelt, and Derek Krause. Great Grandchildren include Aiden Appelt and a special grand-dog Molli.
She is also survived by a sister Sara Jeanne McWilliams and a brother Hugh Thomas Holloway. Special cousins include Barry and Joann Hollenbeck. Special friends include Sandy Smith of Folsom California and Eunice Goodwin of Cameron Park California and many others.
Preceding her in death were her parents Margaret and Claude Holloway, first husband Bill Appelt, second husband Jim DeCosta, daughter in law Dorllyn Appelt, son in law Mark Utterback, sister Claudia Anderson, and brother in law Bob McWilliams
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Hospice Brazos Valley and her caregivers, Stacey Hopes, Grace Dixon, Brittany Booker, and Tudy Adams.
Visitation for Barbara DeCosta will be held at 3PM to 5PM, Saturday August 24th at Memorial Oaks Chapel , 1306 West Main Brenham, Texas
A second set of services are pending at Lind Brothers in Carmichael, California and intermittent in Calvary Cemetary.
