Auguste Pennison

Auguste Joseph Pennison, 94, of Brenham, died Dec. 28, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Pennison was born Feb. 19, 1909, in Bayou L Ourse, Louisiana, to Ernest Joseph and Azelie Verret Pennison. He was baptized in the Catholic church in Amelia, Louisiana and later joined the Presbyterian church. On Dec. 22, 1928, he married Mattie B. Williamson. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1962. Mr. Pennison was a retired machinist/industrial engineer, antique dealer and fur trapper. He was very proud of his Cajun/French heritage. His ancestors were among the first sugar cane planters in southern Louisiana. He maintained a lifelong love of the Cajun lifestyle, particularly family ties, hunting, fishing and cooking. Mr. Pennison was well loved by friends and family and was noted for his loyalty and sense of humor. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Karen Pennison of Brenham and Robert and Sherrie Pennison of Chappell Hill; four grandchildren and seven grandchildren. Two brothers and seven sisters preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 at Forest Park Cemetery on Lawndale in Houston with Mac McIver officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to Brazos Valley Hospice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
