Atreus Clay

Atreus McCreery Clay, 83, of Independence and Houston, passed away November 19, 2009 in Houston. Mr. Clay was a decedent of original settlers in the Independence, Texas area, born to Thomas Thornhill and Dora Gerke Clay on October 26, 1926. Atreus was a renowned attorney in Houston. He was preceded in death by a brother, Nester Clay, and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Reba Clay of Independence; one daughter, Sherry Doyle and husband Wayne; a very special friend Jewel Durham; one granddaughter, Kim Gillihan and husband Steve; one great-grandson; niece Janice Erickson and husband Mikel; nephews Jimmie Clay and wife Linda, and Tom Clay and wife Claudia, as well as two faithful employees, George Perez and Isabell Prieto. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Independence Cemetery in Independence. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
