Alan Runge

June 28, 1962 — September 23, 2024

Alan Blaine Runge was born in Brenham, Texas on June 28, 1962 to Vernon Runge and Nina (Zibilski) Runge. He was a 1981 graduate of Burton High School and attended TEEX Law Enforcement training.

A visitation will be held from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, at Memorial Oaks Chapel with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. A reception will follow at Memorial Oaks. A private burial will be held at the Zionsville Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Growing up, Alan enjoyed all things outdoors, projects for the Washington County Fair, 4-H, FFA, and cuttin’ up with his running buddies. (Most would consider his career in law enforcement a surprise.)

He was a proud father of his daughter, Megan, and his son, Blaine. He was also a loving grandfather to Christopher, Braeden, Gunner, and Evie. They enjoyed spending time having “samples” around his barrel pit and learning to shoot in the backyard. They loved hunting, fishing, long drives down backroads or “his office,” and having Saturday lunches at Mama’s Kitchen. Alan looked forward to “Dad Days” when Blaine came home for leave.

Alan served the Washington County Sheriff’s office for over 20 years. He worked his way from Head Jailer, Patrol Deputy, Narcotics Task Force, Jail Administrator, to Investigation Lieutenant and Arson Investigator. His grandsons enjoyed hearing stories of the investigative prowess of their “Real American Hero.” He also served in the Berlin, Mill Creek, Zionsville Volunteer Fire Department as Captain and later Assistant Chief.

Everyone enjoyed spending time with Alan, his conversations and his outstanding nature. From jokes to witty comebacks, he was always quite a story teller.

Alan left this world peacefully in the early morning hours of September 23, 2024 with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Nina Runge of Burton; daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Christopher Brewster of Brenham; son, Staff Sergeant Blaine Alan Runge of LaGrange, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Brewster, Jr., Braeden Alan Brewster, Gunner Paul Brewster, and Evelynn Grace Brewster; sister and brother-in-law Laurie and David Kirts; niece and nephews Kayla and Cameron Gros, and Kyle Kirts along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon “Bubba” Runge.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Kokemoor, Jamall Lewis, Justin Royall, Mike Krueger, David Thompson, Duane Houston, Cameron Gros, Kurt Roemer, and Michael Brewster. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Kirts, Kayla Gros, Fred Rau, employees and friends at Mama’s Kitchen, and his law enforcement friends.

Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project or Zion Lutheran Church.
