Abie Lesser, Jr. , 78, of Brenham, died Saturday evening, November 1, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center. Mr. Lesser is the husband of Dorothy Crawford Lesser and the father of Patsy Lesser Hermann of Brenham. Born October 12, 1925 in Brenham, Texas, Abie was the son of Abie Lesser, Sr. and Faye Thomas Lesser. He received his education in the Chappell Hill School, Brenham High School, and Blinn Junior College. On June 11, 1944, Abie and Dorothy were married in Bellville, Texas. Mr. Lesser retired after 35 years as an insurance salesman with National Life and Accident Insurance Co., and was also a long time associate of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Abie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Brenham. He was also a charter member and past president of the Brenham Shrine Club Arabia Temple, a member of the Graham Masonic Lodge #20 AF & AM, a past president of the Brenham Kiwanis Club, and a charter member of the Goodfellows of Washington County. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Crawford Lesser; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and John Hermann; and grand-daughter, Jennifer Moehlmann and her husband Robbie, all of Brenham, and his favorite little friend, Mitzi Hermann. The Lesser family will receive callers in Memorial Oaks Chapel on Monday evening, November 3, between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M.. The funeral service for Abie Lesser, Jr. will be held in First Baptist Church in Brenham on Tuesday morning at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Steve Ponder officiating. Graveside service will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery under the auspices of Graham Lodge 20 AF & AM. Serving as pallbearers are Alfred Knolle Hermann, Walter Thielemann, Michael Plentl, Craig Lesser, Howard Kiecke, Hollis Ganey, Robert Stark, D.O., and Gerald Awbrey. Honorary pallbearers are Robbie Moehlmann, Clifford Klingsporn, Bryan Rothermel, Fritz Baumgarden, Phil Lesser, Dr. B. W. Thomas, M. Curley Ashley, Leroy Dryer, Allen Crawford, Scott Zwahr, and all the employees of Memorial Oaks Chapel. As Abie s wish for his love of children: Memorials may be given to the Arabia Temple Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children of Houston, P. O. Box 20625, Houston, Texas 77225-0625. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham.
