Leonard Griffin

July 29, 1920 — March 10, 2015

Leonard Brooks Griffin, Sr., 94, passed away March 10, 2015 at Brenham Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Griffin was born July 29, 1920 in Americus, Georgia to Charles D. and Maude Brooks Griffin. He was a graduate of Americus High School and attended Georgia Southwestern College. His professional career began with Texas and Pacific Railway Co. in El Paso, Texas in 1941. Also in 1941, he was married to Ann Daniel. From that marriage, a son, Leonard Brooks Griffin Jr. and a daughter, Lana Jayne Griffin, were born. Ann preceded him in death. In 1971, he was married to Marian Louise Schwarz Bauch. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps and serving his country during World War II, he continued with the railroad, serving in numerous capacities and retiring in 1981 as President of Houston Belt and Terminal Railroad Company. He then began a second career with the firm of Paul L. Broussard Associates, a transportation consulting firm. He retired again in 1987, and moved to Brenham, Texas. Survivors include his children: Leonard Jr. and Brenda Griffin of Bartow, FL and Lana and Bill Mathews of St. Louis, Missouri; stepchildren: Bonnie and Jim Jones of Tinley Park, IL and Richard and Karen Bauch of Winnipeg, Canada; grandchildren: Melissa DeGrande, Lindsey Griffin, Leonard B. Griffin III, Jonathan Bauch, Kristina Bauch, A.J. Jones, and Mike Jones; great-grandchildren: Isabelle DeGrande, Max DeGrande, Logan Griffin, Taylor Griffin, Austin, Gillian and Andrew Jones, Gavin and Blythe Jones. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matthew Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements for Leonard Brooks Griffin, Sr. are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham, Texas.
