Kenneth Mutscher

It has pleased almighty God, to summon to himself the soul of Kenneth Mutscher, during the early morning hours of Monday, May 20, 2019, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ken, the second of three children, was born on September 7, 1943 in the William Penn community of Washington County, Texas, to Herbert A. and Meta Gaskamp Mutscher. He was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn by Pastor C. J. Appel on October 3, 1943. He was confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church, Brenham, Texas, on May 12, 1957, by Pastor R. Westermann.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m., with Pastors Matthew Jacobs and Wm. Holzer officiating; interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

On August 1, 1971, Ken was united in marriage with Sarita Dickmann. Their marriage was blessed with the gift of one child, Kevin Mutscher.

Ken attended Grace Lutheran School, graduated from Brenham High School, Blinn College and the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Ken attained the rank of First Lieutenant in the Texas National Guard and was a member of the Buddy Wright Post 48 of the American Legion. He was active at Grace Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities; He was currently an Elder and served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the current facility.

He was the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative. He was active in Brenham and Washington County, including service with Washington County Little League, the Brenham Noon Lions Club, and the Blinn College Foundation. Ken enjoyed raising Brangus cattle, hunting, fishing, sports, especially baseball, and his grandson, Kaden.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sarita Mutscher, son Kevin Mutscher and wife Renee and grandson Kaden Mutscher. He is survived by his sisters Rose Marie Prenzler and Carolyn Kuenstler and husband Wayne; nephews Don Prenzler and wife Marie, Brian Kuenstler and Michael Huggins, great-nephews Matthew Prenzler and wife Courtney and Nicholas Prenzler. He is also survived by uncle and aunts Clarence Gaskamp and wife Bernice and Florence Gaskamp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Meta Gaskamp Mutscher, brother-in-law Norman Prenzler, sister-in-law Barbara Wagner and husband Alois Wagner, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Matt Bentke, Ben Flencher, Charles Giese, Matthew Prenzler, Brian Kuenstler, Howard “Bubba” Hannan, Jr., Brad Slaughter, and Bobby Walla. Honorary pallbearers are Dorothy and Ronnie Holle, Wilton Schoenst, Nelson Aschenbeck, Wayne Wagner, Richard T. Nuffer, Leroy Dreyer, Elizabeth Kana, Kyle Merten, and Randy and Diana Markwardt.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the numerous nurses, personal care assistants, therapists and doctors who treated Ken during the last several weeks, especially, Drs. William Loesch, Chris Derbes, Dang Nguyen, as well as the entire staff of the Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00.
