Theresa Horne

Theresa Terry Horne of Burton passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006, at the age of 83. Mrs. Horne was born Theresa Virginia Harding in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 4, 1922, to Joseph St. Claire and Anna Elizabeth Mellor Harding. She grew up as one of eight children in the Iowa farm country. Mrs. Horne joined the military and served during World War II in the Women s Air Corps. After the war, she married Ernest Horne and started a family. Mrs. Horne spent her career serving her country as a civil servant to the Coast Guard in Galveston. After retirement, she moved to Burton, where she was a faithful member of Bethany Christian Church and a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 142. It was her joy to travel weekly to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple to deliver cookies and other gifts to the patients on behalf of the Burton Legion Auxiliary and Bethany Christian Church. Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by her eldest son, Charles Andrew Horne; and foster daughter, Diane Bethea. She is survived by her youngest son, Ernest Jr. Buddy Horne and wife Bobbie; son-in-law, Glen Bethea; daughter-in-law, Mary Morris; four grandchildren, Glen Horne, Gene Horne, Libra Mattern and Carla Glenn; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Alexander Horne, Andrew Stephen Horne, Zachry Ryan Horne, Tyler Mattern, Morgan Mattern and Travis Bethea; and a beloved grandniece, Roseann Trevino of Marlin. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, August 7 at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8 in Bethany Christian Church in Burton with Pastor Bob Hofmann officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Christian Cemetery on Christian Cemetery Rd., near Burton. Pallbearers will be Glen Bethea, Gordon Pattison, Marvin Morris and Jacquy Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dorothy McGill, Gene and Edna Mae Meyer, Ona Falke, Annie Maude Avis, Norma Jean Hanks, members of American Legion Post 142 and members of Bethany Christian Church. Memorials may be given to Bethany Christian Church for the veterans Christmas project.
