Olan Runnels

July 23, 1923 — March 25, 2013

Preceded in death by parents Olan F. and Ida Runnels, Olan Runnels, 89, passed away after losing his battle to cancer at his home in Brenham, Texas. Born in Goose Creek, Texas, he resided most of his life in Houston, Brenham and Waco. Olan was a lifelong learner even after graduating from Humble High School and Baylor University. He proudly served in combat with the Anti-tank Company, 291st Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division during WWII. He continued his studies receiving his MBA from University of Houston Bauer College of Business and worked with Shell Oil Company until he retired. After his retirement he continued traveling all over the world with his loving bride and dance partner. Olan cherished his time spent with his family and friends making many wonderful memories. He was the kindest of men and a role model to many. Olan will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Waldrop Runnels, son Robert J. Runnels, granddaughter Lora Sundbeck and husband Cody. Grandsons Dale and Robert and four great grandchildren , London, Ethan, Alayna and Makayla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Fighters of Houston, P.O.B. 272641, Houston, Texas 77277-2641. Per Olan''s request, there will be no memorial service in celebration of his life.
