Mildred Spreen

Mildred Gaskamp Spreen, 82, of Burton, died Dec. 26, 2004, in Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Mrs. Spreen was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Brenham, the daughter of Theo and Selma Holle Gaskamp. She was baptized Nov. 5, 1922 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville by Rev. Karl Mueller and was confirmed March 21, 1937 in the same church by the same pastor. She was educated at Cedar Hill School and Harrisburg School in Washington County. On Jan. 17, 1946, she was married to Melvin Spreen in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville by Rev. Fred Mgebroff. Mrs. Spreen was a homemaker and Avon representative. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville, where she was active in the Women of the ELCA and quilting. She was a member of the Washington County Extension Homemakers and was a 4-H leader. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and John W. Bill Keienburg of Zionsville; grandson, James D. Keienburg; brother-in-law, Theo Naumann Sr. of Brenham; aunts, Zelone Schroeder of Brenham and Rosamund Holle of Winters; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Spreen, in 1979; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Clara Spreen, Fritz and Nora Spreen, Alvin and Minnie Scurlock and Henrietta Naumann; and two nephews. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Her nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
