Mildred Bernhardt

Mildred Bernhardt, 85, of Brenham, died August 7, 2008, in Brenham. Mrs. Bernhardt was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Prairie Hill, Texas, to Bill and Selma Schmidt Finke. She attended Prairie Hill School. On June 27, 1942, she was married to Walter Bernhardt in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Paul Gogolin. Mrs. Bernhardt was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham and the Women of the ELCA. She was a homemaker Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Olan Ashorn of Burton; and grandchildren, Brian Wade and Lisa Ashorn and their children: John Thomas and Kristen Taylor Ashorn and Russell Derek and Amy Ashorn and their children, Justin Lee, Courtney Nicole and Kaylee Ann Ashorn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Bernhardt on July 7, 1992; 5 sisters; and 1 brother. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastor Mike Button officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Brian Ashorn, Russell Ashorn, Justin Lee Ashorn, John Thomas Ashorn, Courtney Ashorn, Kristen Ashorn, Lyndon Jakubik and Bill Young. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
