Marilyln Jobe

July 16, 1948 — December 19, 2011

Marilyn Bennett Jobe passed away on December 19, 2011 after battling cancer. She was born in Houston on July 16th, 1948 and raised in nearby Baytown. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger Bennett, while attending Lamar University, where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education. She later received her Master''s from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She taught elementary school in Portland, Texas for many years and was a talented writer, publishing a tour guide and many magazine articles. In later years she enjoyed writing speeches and speaking to women at church retreats and Ladies'' Days. Marilyn and Roger raised their children in Portland. Several years after Roger''s passing she married Chuck Jobe and moved to The Woodlands, and after they retired they called Chappell Hill home as well. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Nona Marshall and brother, Maurice, as well as her husband of 27 years, Roger Bennett. She is survived by her adoring husband of 11 years, Chuck Jobe. She is survived by sons Roger and wife Beth Bennett, Andy and wife Katie Bennett, and daughter Kimberly and husband Kyle Stringer. She was also precious Grammy to Colten, Maddie, Claire, Seth, Laura, Blake, Gavin, and Cullen. She is also survived by her brother Bill Marshall. Marilyn''s life was a life lived in service to her Lord. Countless people name her as bible teacher, camp counselor at Camp Bandina, spiritual mentor, and friend. Her home was always open to those she loved and she loved many. She was a devoted mother to her children and she had no greater joy than to know that they too walk in the Truth. Her grandchildren will remember her as fun-loving and doting, someone who baked cookies, painted rocks, and swung in tree swings with them. Marilyn was passionate about life: she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and singing, and she also loved hunting, fishing, and water skiing. She was a wonderful piano player and countless people have had the pleasure of singing around the piano with her and her family. Her memorial service will be held at A&M Church of Christ in College Station at 2:00 pm on December 21. She will have a private burial service in Portland followed by a memorial service at the Kings Crossing Church of Christ in Corpus Christi on December 22 at 3:00 pm . Her pall bearers are Dan Bennett, Bruce Bennett, Dan Jobe, Randy Blankinship, Mark Blankinship, and Jimmy D. West. Bill Marshall and David Blankinship are honorary pall bearers. Funeral arrangements for Marilyn Jobe are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. To post a tribute to the family, visit the website www.memorialoakschapel.com.
