Lydia Oevermann

Lydia Oevermann, 100, widow of John Oevermann, passed away at home February 22, 2011 in Brenham, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Born at home in Burton on August 6, 1910 to Freidrich Fritz and Elnora Korthauer Harmel, Lydia was baptized Sept. 26, 1910 in St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Rev. H. Weber, where she was later confirmed on October 5, 1924. She attended area schools, and on December 7, 1932, she was married to John Oevermann, also in St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Rehburg, by Rev. C. H. Lehne. Lydia worked alongside her husband on the farm until they moved to Brenham in the 1970''s.She continued to work well into her 80''s, working for Dairy Bar, Dairy Queen, as well as the Toy Box Nursery. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was famous for her lemon pies and coffee cakes. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, with her friends, and working with her roses in her flower beds. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church until the time of her death. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Lavina Oevermann of Houston; grandchildren: Sheryl Oevermann Malinowski of Bellville; Darrel and Susan Brauer Oevermann of Houston; James and Karen Caughfield Oevermann of Houston; 14 great-grandchildren: Leon and Wendy Malinowski Pustejovsky of Bellville; Edwin and Cassie Littlefair Malinowski of Nelsonville; Cole and Mendy Malinowski Shipley of Odessa; James and Emilie Malinowski Loeblein of New Ulm; Cendy Malinowski and friend Clint Duch of Brenham; Sherry Malinowski of Austin; Lydia, Micah, Matthew, and Lauren Oevermann of Houston; 9 great-great-grandchildren: Tyler and Austin Pustejovsky of Bellville; Levi, Layne, Luke Aran Malinowski of Nelsonville; Hunter and Remington Shipley of Odessa; Kayle and Wesley Anderson of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Elnora Korthaurer Harmel, husband John Oevermann, brother Edwin Harmel, sister-in-law Florence Korthauer Harmel, brother and sister-ijn-law August and Elsa Jaster Oevermann, Adolph and Hattie Holt Oevermann, Walter and Lony Oevermann Meyer, Albert and Minni Oevermann Knipstein, Erick and Norma Oevermann Fox, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lydia Harmel Oevermann will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor Karen Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Darrel Oevermann, James Oevermann, Edwin Oevermann, Edwin Malinowski III, Leon Pustejovsky, and Cole Shipley.
