Lester Schramm

April 12, 1938 — December 22, 2003

Lester Schramm was born April 21, 1938, in the New Ulm area, the son of Lawrence and Olivia Bader Schramm. He married Lena Faye Hahn Feb. 23, 1974. She died on Sept. 18, 1998. A lifelong resident of this area, he was a member of the Nelsonville Brethren Church and was baptized in this faith. He was a member of SPJST over 50 years. Lester was a friend to all and would help anyone at any time. His ready smile and laugh endeared him to all. He worked for Chappell Hill Construction Co. since March 17, 1969. He loved children, especially his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Lester passed away on Dec. 22, 2003, in Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston at the age of 65 years, 8 months from complications of a massive stroke. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister-in-law, Shirley Schramm; infant niece, Margaret Ann Ruether; and twin nephews, William and Allen Schramm. Survivors are: two sisters, Lillie Mae and husband Bennie Faist of Brenham and Oze and husband Lawrence Ruether of Eagle Lake; one brother, Leeland and wife Irene Schramm of Industry; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; aunts and uncles. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24 in Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville with Pastor Milton Maly officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Nelsonville. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham.
