Leon Wellmann

Leon Wellmann, 70, of Brenham, died March 16, 2012 at his residence. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service for Leon Wellmann will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville with Pastor James Abbott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Wellmann was born January 11, 1942 in Washington County, Texas, to Eddie and Ella Schulze Wellmann. He was baptized Feb. 22, 1942 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, and confirmed March 25, 1956 by Pastor Kramer. Mr. Wellmann was a 1961 graduate of Brenham High School. On April 21, 1964, he was married to Betty Duch, enjoying over 47 years together. Mr. Wellmann spent most of his career in ranching, with the last 11 years employed by Dr. Gary Friedman at the O2 Ranch in Washington. He loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting events. He was their biggest fan. He also enjoyed the company of his dog, Candy. Survivors include his wife, Betty Wellmann of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Michelle Wellmann of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Mark Bentke of Washington; grandchildren, Kate and Eric Wellmann, Corey Bentke and special friend Kristie Barker and Colleen Bentke; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Bridget Alexander; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delvin and Diana Kay Wellmann, Elroy and Bonnie Wellmann, Marvin and Virginia Wellmann and Freddie and Linda Wellmann, all of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alice Birkelbach, Charles and Janice Duch and Ray and April Duch, mother-in-law Dorothy Duch Hupe and husband Wilfred Hupe. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Reinhardt Duch. Serving as pallbearers; Dillon Knebel, Mason Kwiathowski, Colten Walla, Jeremy Zettel, Zach Holder, DJ Cumby, Luis Martinez, Royce Neaumann and Cody Barrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Wellmann, Jason Hupe, Justin Hupe, Daniel Borchgardt, Matt Kwiatkowski, Dr. Gary Friedman, Daryl Dahmann, Darrell Kieke, Chance Bolerek and Collin Crenshaw. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville, Hospice Brazos Valley, or Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village. Special thanks goes to his special caregiver Bridget Alexander, Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village, Hospice Brazos Valley, Dr. Gary Friedman, Dr. Yvonne Kew and staff and Dr. William Loesch and staff and Texas Home Health Care.
