Johnny Hightower

Johnny Hightower, 79, widower of Dolories Hodde Hightower, passed away August 2, 2008 at Trinity Care Center. Mr. Hightower was born July 15, 1929 in Dublin, Texas in Erath County to Johnny Edgar and Vella B. Daniel Hightower. He was baptized March 1, 1941 in First Baptist Church in Dublin, Tx. and confirmed March 1, 1961 in Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa. On June 18, 1960, he married Dolories Hodde in St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in Brenham. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Hightower of Brenham; daughter Mindy Hightower of Brenham; brothers and sisters-in-law William and Eileen Hightower of Arlington, Everett and Betty Hightower of Dublin, Belton Hightower of Goldthwaite, and Chi Chi Reed of Puerto Rico; sister Lauda Engi of Louisiana, two grandchildren, Cody and Carleigh Hightower, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his loving wife, Dolories, a brother Wallace Reed, his mother and father, and mother-in-law and father-in-law. Mr. Hightower owned and operated the Dixie Maid. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, and Bread Partners. He served on the property and maintenance committee of his church, and was active in the church council. Mr. Hightower was a church usher for many years, and was a loving father, grandfather, who loved his church. He also greatly enjoyed working with his cattle. Funeral services for Johnny Paul Hightower will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham, with Pastor Mike Button officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Randy Smith, Tom Campbell, Carl Kasparek, Edward Kasparek, Pastor Herb Palmer, Gary Knebel, Kevin Knebel, and Brian Knebel. Honorary pallbearers are Johnnie Jankowiak, Allen Stepan, John Weatherly, Pastor Blair Lundborg, Pastor Robert Pfennig, as well as his friends from Bread Partners and his nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions should be directed to Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
