Gerry Ginn

Gerry Suter Ginn, 71, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in a Giddings nursing home. Mr. Ginn was born Feb. 29, 1932 to Paul D. Ginn and Laura Thomas Ginn in Brenham. He was baptized in the Baptist faith at age 10. He was educated in Brenham schools and Blinn College and served in the U.S. Army for two years. On Nov. 10, 1957, he married Natalie Oevermann at St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. He worked at Maddox Furniture Co. for many years. Later, he became an insurance agent with Washington National after which he joined Reliable Life Insurance Co. and retired from that company in 1993 after 31 years of service. Mr. Ginn was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Brenham Fire Department for over 40 years and retired from it. The fire department was his biggest thrill, and he seldom missed any fire alarms while his health allowed it. He was a proud member of Chief Giese s 102 Crew. Mr. Ginn was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church with his family. Mr. Ginn enjoyed attending football games and local sports events and also enjoyed going fishing with his children and grandchildren. He truly loved people and never met anyone he couldn t talk to. He was everybody s friend even if he didn t know them by name. He is survived by his wife, Natalie of Burton; son, Greg Ginn and wife Tammy of Wesley; daughters, Gina Mulanax of Brenham, Lori Rueter and husband Roy Allen of Cypress and Amy Jasinski and husband Billy Jo of Burton; grandchildren, Garrett and Taylor Ginn, Allie Rueter, Michael Rueter, Becky and Ross Stotts, Brett and Larissa Studhalter, Kurt, Kristina and Kelby Jasinski; stepgreat-grandchildren, Ayden and Ethan Stotts; brothers-in-law, Otto Oevermann, Harold Oevermann, August Oevermann and wife Valeria, Lewis Oevermann and wife Voncille, Charlie Oevermann and wife Marilyn, Edwin Oevermann and wife Gladys; sister-in-law, Rose Lee Kenjura; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul D. and Laura Thomas Ginn; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul D. Jr. and Margaret Ginn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, August H. Sr. and Elsie Oevermann; and brothers-in-law, George Oevermann and Benard Kenjura. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham with Rev. Larry Embry officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Faithauer, Wayne Giese, all past and present Brenham Fire Department members, all the faithful nurses at Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Giddings and relatives and friends. Memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham or to the Alzheimer s Association. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
