Funeral services for Fred Pena, 56, husband of Gaila Clarke Pena, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in Brenham, with Father Ernesto Elizondo officiating. Burial will take place in the Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with a Rosary to be celebrated at 7 p.m. Mr. Pena passed away December 18, 2012 at his residence. Fred Pena was born in San Antonio on October 26, 1956 to Frank Sr. and Lucy Rangel Pena. He received a high school education in the San Antonio area, and later completed welding school to become a certified welder. Fred''s hobbies were woodworking, especially making decorative birdhouses. He was an active fish and bird hobbyist and loved taking care of his roses. Fred enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. He was strong in his faith and shared a deep loved for Jesus Christ. Survivors include his mother, Lucy Pena of San Antonio; wife, Gaila Pena of Brenham; son Anthony Pena of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Jeff Stopper and granddaughter, Halle Stopper, all of Austin; brother, Frank Pena, Jr. of San Antonio and a sister, Sylvia Pena of San Antonio, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Pena, Sr., nephew, Chad Irwin, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Carolyn Clarke, brother-in-law, Steve Wanha, and a niece, Erin Wanha. Mr. Pena was the owner of Dos Palomas Restaurant in Brenham for ten years. He was also employed as a cable locator for the phone company, as well as an electrical salesman for Lowe''s until the onset of his disability. We extend great gratitude to Dr. Tan, Dr. Grillo, Dr. Martin, and their staff, to the staff at Davita Dialysis and to the nurses and staff at Southern Care Hospice. Serving as pallbearers are Frank Pena Jr., Anthony Pena, Jeff Stopper, Larry Robertson, Jamie Robertson, and Russell Grigsby. Memorials may be directed to Southern Care Hospice or to the American Kidney Fund. Funeral arrangement for Fred Pena are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
