Florence Mikolajczak

June 2, 1925 — July 14, 2003

Florence Mikolajczak, born in Chappell Hill, Texas on June 2, 1925, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2003. Her parents were John Mikolajczak and Rosie Krotofil Mikolajczak. Florence was born prematurely in the former St. Jude Hospital, which is now the Brenham Rest Home. Florence had severe physical disabilities since birth and lived in the Brenham Rest Home for the past 38 years. In spite of her challenges, Florence was always to be seen with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. Her family visitors and friends at the rest home could always count on a hug and a pleasant conversation with Florence plus a hearty chuckle with a light-hearted joke. Florence spent her thoughts on others and was generous, positive and kind. Florence attended special skills schools in Galveston, Texas and lived for much of her early years with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kitowski. These grandparents were responsible for providing most of her academic achievement, enabling Florence to enjoy reading and writing and her favorite television show, CNN. When her grandparents passed away, Florence was taken care of by the trustee-guarandianship of Willie Kmiec, and upon his death by her first cousin Mollie Gurka, who served in this capacity for over 25 years, then for the past 7 years by Mollie s son, Vince Gurka. Florence s parents, her stepbrother John Skweres and infant brother Charles preceded her in death. She is survived by her her stepbrother Henry Mikolajczak and wife Stella, and stepsister Sophie Murski and her husband Jack. Visitation and rosary recitation will be held in the Memorial Oaks Chapel on Tuesday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 16 at St. Mary s Catholic Church in Brenham with graveside services immediately following in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chappell Hill. In appreciation for the care that Florence received at the Brenham Rest Home, 406 Cottonwood, Brenham, TX 77833, donations to the Activity Fund for the residents there would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
