Elsie Bohne Boenker, 85, of Brenham, passed away on Saturday August 1, 2009, at 11:30 AM. Elsie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her. Mrs. Boenker was born May 24, 1924, in Washington County, to Henry and Elsie Krueger Bohne. She was baptized July 9, 1924 at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church at Washington by Rev. H.F.W. Grotefent and was confirmed March 17, 1940 by Rev. Kurt Schmiechen at Washington. After attending Washington School and graduating from Brenham High School, she attended Sam Houston State University, where she earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees. On May 22, 1949, she was married to Leroy H. Boenker in Washington, by Rev. Paul Piepenbrok. Leroy and Elsie were happily married for 60 wonderful years. Mrs. Boenker taught at Prairie Hill and then one year in Grace Lutheran Parochial School and later taught in Bellville school systems, retiring in 1983. Since 1950, she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of the Prayer Circle. Mrs. Boenker was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and life member of Texas State Teachers Association and Texas Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband, Leroy H. Boenker of Brenham; sons and daughter-in-law, Edward Boenker of Addison and Darrell and Suzanne Boenker of Spring; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dennis Hart of Church Point, Louisiana; grandchildren, Aaron and Morgan Hart, Christopher and Shannon Hart, Amanda Hart and fiancé Joanthan Choate, Jennifer Boenker, Julie Boenker and Natalie Boenker; great-grandson, Cameron Picard; sister-in-law, Lucille Bohne of Bellville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roberial and Dorothy Boenker of Brenham; and sisters-in-law, Ruby McGaw of Spring and Audrey Nelson of Pearland. Mrs. Boenker was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edwin Bohne, brothers-in-law, Clarence McGaw and Raymond Nelson and infant grandson. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2nd at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 3rd at Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, following the service. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church afterwards for a luncheon. Pallbearers will be Christopher Hart, Aaron Hart, Jonathan Choate, Steve Harvey, Stanley Nelson, and Shawn McGaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Bohne, Timothy Nelson, Maurice Jurena, Doug Ellis, John Blacklock, Jack Boenker, Mark Siemsglusz, Andy Montemayor and Mark Arlitt. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, Honorary contributions can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Alzheimer''s Association, American Cancer Society or Hospice Brazos Valley.
