Clinton Marburger

Clinton Marburger, 82, of Burton, died Wednesday, September 20 at his residence.

The funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, Sept.23, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine with the Rev. Paul Bohot officiating. Interment will follow in the La Bahia Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, September 22, 2006 at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.

Clinton Walter Marburger was born September 12, 1924, in Winedale, Texas, to Walter and Hilda Noak Marburger. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in 1943, where he played tuba in the school band. Another of the Great Generation, he served during WWII in the Army Airforce from June 28, 1943 until Feb 13, 1946. He received his AAF Air Crew Member Badge wings as a radio operator mechanic and served with the 7th Emergency Rescue Squadron rescuing downed pilots after airstrikes in China and Central Burma and then in the Phillipines and Okinawa. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant while overseas and was discharged after Japan surrendered.

He married Nevilee Wagner, of Burton, on Aug 24, 1947. Having met at a Labor Day dance in La Bahia before the war, they began their life together in Port Arthur, Texas, where Clinton was employed at the Gulf Refinery. He became a supervisor in 1970, and in 1982, he retired after 36 years. A skilled craftsman, Clinton built two of their homes in Port Arthur, and after retirement , he returned to Burton to become a fulltime farmer and rancher. He was an active square dancer in Port Arthur, and continued dancing as a member of the Top Cat Dance Club in Brenham. He was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, the Quade-Werchan Post #338 of the American Legion, and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nevilee Wagner Marburger; three children, Mindy Lawrence and husband Tim, Randy Marburger and wife Cora, Wendy Maltba and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Sarah Lawrence, Laura Marburger Lee and husband Brian, Douglas Marburger, Christopher Bodin and wife Heather Green Bodin, Taylor Maltba; and step-great grandchildren, Cameron and Austin Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Clara Wagner.

Memorials may be made to the La Bahia Cemetery Association, designated funds at Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, or the charity of your choice.
