Bennie Goebel

April 21, 1919 — August 27, 2005

Bennie Goebel, 86, of Shelby, died Aug. 27, 2005, at his residence with his wife, Hertha, by his side. Bennie was born April 21, 1919, in the Shelby community, to Rudolph and Paula Schucany Goebel. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, where he was a lifelong member. Bennie attended Shelby School and served his country in the Air Force during World War II. On May 26, 1946, he married Hertha Meischen in Warrenton Lutheran Church. Bennie was blessed to be able to spend his entire life in the Shelby community, where he and Hertha were partners in their dairy and farming operation. Due to his wife s dedication and loving assistance, Bennie was able to live at home until his death. Bennie was a charter member of Shelby American Legion, Hermann Sons Lodge #28, Shelby VFD and Harmonie Hall. Hunting, fishing and baseball games were his favorite pastimes. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hertha Goebel of Shelby; his children and their spouses, Carol and Ron Goehring of Round Top, Glenda and David Luedeker of Navasota, Gary and Joan Goebel of Carmine and Rodney and Diann Goebel of Shelby. Papa was very proud of his grandchildren, Blake and Christie Goehring, Laura and Chad Hesters, Stacy and Clint Eilers, Luke and LeAnn Luedeker, Gretchen and Brian Peterson, Clay and Jamie Goehring, Garrison Goebel, Lyle Luedeker and fiancée Mary Thiel, Haley Goebel and Reese Goebel. Great-grandchildren are Ryker and Kannyn Goehring, Kate Eilers, Morgan Hesters, Ainsley Goehring and Hope Luedeker. Surviving relatives include his sister, Wilma Wunderlich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis Rudloff, Lydia Weinert, Gladys and Alfred Baack and Regina Albert; and caregiver, Jackie Richter. Numerous nieces and nephews fondly remember visiting with Uncle Bennie. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anita Rudloff; and brother, John Goebel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby with burial to follow at Shelby Cemetery. Pastor Pamela Werrell will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Papa s grandchildren are honored to serve as pallbearers. Spouses of his grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shelby Cemetery Association or St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
