August Quinn

August Quinn, 98, of Brenham, died March 27, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Quinn was born April 26, 1906, in Williamson County, Texas, to James and Helena Korth Quinn. He was baptized Sept. 20, 1934, in Byersville, Texas, and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Byersville by Pastor Rovake. Mr. Quinn attended Type School in Williamson County. On Nov. 20, 1929, he married Lillie Thonig in Jahre Bes Heun, Williamson County. Mr. Quinn was employed by Brenham Broom and Mop Co. and Brenham Wholesale, Co. After retiring, he and his wife had an egg route in Houston, and he drove the school bus for Grace Lutheran School in Brenham. They also enjoyed raising parakeets. Mr. Quinn was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brenham. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Mantey of Houston, Lillian and Monroe Gaskamp of Brenham, Blondean and Henry Kuecker of Brenham and Vivian and Buddy Janes of Wesley; seven grandchildren, Doyle Gaskamp and wife Theresa, Mark Mantey, Jo Lynn Kuecker Briggs and husband Kenneth, Tracy Kuecker McNicoll and husband Tony, Jason Janes and wife Karan, Leah Janes, Brian Janes and wife Kristina and Don Koester and wife Ann; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Quinn, on April 5, 1995; son-in-law, Steve Mantey, in February, 1995; granddaughter, Darlene Gaskamp Koester, in April, 1997; grandson, Kerry Mantey, in January, 2003; two brothers; and seven sisters. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, at 10:00 a.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Dr. Wesley Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Doyle Gaskamp, Don Koester, Mark Mantey, Kenneth Briggs, Tony McNicoll, Jason Janes, Brian Janes and Walt Fehrle. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in Brenham or Hospice.
