Andy Kammerer

Andy Kammerer, 89, of Brenham, died on Friday evening, August 29, 2003 in a local nursing home. Born in the Prairie Hill community of Washington County on April 14, 1914, Andy was the son of Herman and Lillie Boortz Kammerer. Mr. Kammerer was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church at Prairie Hill and was later confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church at Zionsville. He attended school in the Longpoint community and was employed by Coca Cola, Blue Bell Creameries and retiring from Brenham Wholesale for many years. On March 21, 1942, Mr. Kammerer married Bernita Harms in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church at Berlin. He loved fishing and gardening and loved to tell old stories about his family life and his growing up in Washington County. His family was a very important part of his life. Mr. Kammerer is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Bertha Kammerer of Brenham and by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Bob Gardner of Kemah; along with his grandchildren: Scott & Shayla Perkins, Brandi & John Bilbo, Brian Kammerer and Bradley Kammerer & his special friend, Amber Seeger, as well as one great-grandchild, Ashton Scott Perkins. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Annie Mae Kammerer of Sweeney, Elsie Becker of Brenham, Minnie Schwettmann of Brenham and Ernest & Fayma Harms of Brenham; as well as his sister, Violet Graeber of Brenham. Mr. Kammerer is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bernita Kammerer who died on July 23, 2000, two sons, David and Gayle, a brother, Travis Kammerer and a sister, Alice Bolieu. The Kammerer family will receive callers in Memorial Oaks Chapel on Monday evening between 6 o clock and 8 o clock. The funeral for Mr. Kammerer will be held in Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham, where Andy was a member for a number of years, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 with pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Maurice Graeber, Gary Herzog, Kenneth Becker, Edward Al Krueger, Billy Schwettmann, and Harvey Krueger. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Memorial Oaks Chapel; 1306 W. Main St., Brenham, Texas.
